Christopher C Barber, MD FACC

Dr. Barber was born in Gowanda, NY, and received his bachelor's degree in Biology from Florida State University. He received his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine before moving to North Carolina to complete his training at Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem. He joined Coastal Cardiology upon completing his Interventional Cardiology Fellowship in July of 1994.

Dr. Barber is a Councilor for the North Carolina Chapter - American College of Cardiology and serves on numerous committees at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He is an avid fisherman and he is active in church and with his children's sports activities.

William P. Buchanan, MD, FACC

Dr. Buchanan was born in Sumter, South Carolina and received a bachelors degree in Chemistry from the College of Charleston. After receiving his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, Dr. Buchanan did his Internal Medicine Internship and Residency in Wilmington at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Following his Cardiology Fellowship at Bowman Gray School of Medicine he came back to Wilmington to found Coastal Cardiology Associates, PA.

Dr. Buchanan's family includes three children. He enjoys activities with his family, aviation, kitesurfing, swimming, and playing the guitar.

Dr. Calhoun was born in Philadelphia, PA and grew up in Washington, DC. She attended both undergraduate and medical school at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. She completed her internal medicine residency at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She then completed her cardiology fellowship at University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She is board certified in Cardiology and Nuclear Cardiology.

Dr. Ellis is a native of North Carolina. He attended undergraduate school at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, and medical school at Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, Greenville, NC. He completed his internal medicine residency at University of Alabama, Birmingham, AL and then went on to complete his cardiology fellowship at University Hospitals/Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH.

James S Forrester Jr, MD FACC

Dr. Forrester has many ties to the Wilmington area as both his parents are former Wilmingtonians. He received his Bachelor's degree in Zoology from North Carolina State University and received his Medical Degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. After his Residency and Internship at Carolina's Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina Dr. Forrester moved to Chicago, Illinois to complete his Cardiology and Electrophysiology Fellowships at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center.

Dr. Forrester and his wife are happy to be in their home state serving the people in his parent's hometown.

Frank A Hobart, MD FACC

Dr. Hobart is a native of North Carolina, receiving his Bachelors of Arts Degree from Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina. He went on to East Carolina University where he received his Medical Degree and completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He then moved to Connecticut to complete his Residency and served as Chief Resident of Yale University in 1996. His Cardiology Fellowship was earned at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and he subsequently joined Coastal Cardiology in 1999. Dr. Hobart and his wife are both physicians enjoying a busy lifestyle with their two children. He enjoys traveling, tennis, running and golf.

Dr. Lewis grew up in Florida. He attended undergraduate school at Furman University in Greenville, SC, and medical school at University of Miami School of Medicine in Miami, FL. He completed his internal medicine training at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. He was a cardiology fellow at Emory University in Atlanta, GA and a interventional cardiology fellow at Harvard's Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA.

Tripp Meine 

Frederick James "Trip" Meine, III, MD, FACC, FSCAI

Dr. Meine was born in Ft. Benning, Georgia. He received his Batchelor of Arts degree from Yale University. After receiving his medical degree from Duke University Medical Center he went on to complete his Internal Medicine Internship and Residency at Duke. He also received his Cardiology Fellowship and Interventional Cardiology Fellowship from Duke University. Dr. Meine joined Coastal Cardiology in July 2009 after having moved from Greenville, SC where he had been employed by Carolina Cardiology Consultants from 2005-2009 and served as Clinical Assistant Professor of Cardiology, Dept. of Internal Medicine and Medical Director, Cardiac Education, Greenville Hospital System from 2006-2009. "Trip" is an avid fisherman who enjoys living here in Wilmington with his wife, who is also a physician, and their two children.

Dr. Patel is originally from Uganda. He attended undergraduate school at Charles Keene College, in Leicester, UK and medical school at University of Birmingham Medical School, in Birmingham, UK. He completed his internal medicine training at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, MI. He was a cardiology fellow at Mount Sinai Hospital, Cleveland, OH and a cardiac electrophysiology fellow at East Carolina University, Greenville, NC.

William T Smith, IV, MD FACC

Dr. Smith grew up in Wilmington until leaving to attend high school at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Duke University before obtaining his medical degree at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill. Dr. Smith completed his Internship and Residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston before returning to Duke University to complete his Cardiology and Electrophysiology Fellowships in July, 2003. He has received many awards and honors for his academic performance and is the only Wilmington Cardiologist Board Certified in three subspecialties of Cardiology.  Dr. Smith resides in Wilmington with his wife and three children. He is delighted to be taking care of the community he grew up in.  Sailing is a favorite pastime.

Timothy M Winslow, MD FACC

Dr. Winslow was raised in New England, born in Northhampton, Massachusetts. He received a Bachelor's of Arts Degree from St. Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire and his Medical Degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. He served in the Army where he completed his Internal Medicine Internship and Residency as well as his Cardiovascular Fellowship at Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco, California. Dr. Winslow completed an Echocardiography Fellowship at the Cardiovascular Research Institute, Moffitt Hospital, University of California, San Francisco. He served as the Director of Non-Invasive Cardiology at Tripler Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii prior to joining Coastal Cardiology in 1995. He enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with his wife and four children.

Kathleen earned a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Vermont in May of 1996. In August of 2004 she earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Boston, MA. In May of 2006 she graduated from the Physician Assistant Program from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences with a Masters in Physician Assistant Studies. Kathleen has been working in the field of Cardiology since 2006 and in addition to her Physician Assistant Certification she is also certified in Adult Cardiac Life Support. Kathleen came to North Carolina in 2011 to work at the East Carolina Heart Institute in Greenville, NC. She relocated to Wilmington, NC in 2013 to join Cape Fear Heart Associates.

Sharon Lane, PA-C

Sharon was born and raised in central Florida. She received her Nursing degree at Daytona Community College in 1979 and worked has a critical care RN for 6 years. In 1985 she began the Physician Assistant Program at the University of Florida. Sharon graduated with a Bachelors degree in Health Science along with the highest GPA for the Physician Assistant Program, class of 1987. For over 20 years she has actively practiced as a Physician Assistant in Cardiology. Sharon joined Coastal Cardiology Associates in 2007 after relocating from Florida to Wilmington. She is married, has two sons and is an outdoor enthusiast.

Bridgette Williams, FNP-BC, MSN, RN

Bridgette earned a Bachelors degree in Nursing and Midwifery from Natal College of Nursing in Durban, South Africa in 1992. She then earned a Masters of Science in Nursing from Radford University in Radford, VA in May of 2010. She has been working in the field of Cardiology since 2009 and in addition to her Nurse Practitioner Board Certification she is also certified in Adult Cardiac Life Support. Bridgette has attended the Hypothermia and Resuscitation Training Institute at the University of Pennsylvania for Therapeutic Hypothermia. She has also assisted with teaching Therapeutic Hypothermia and data collection for the PATH database.
